Use this checklist with the person who owns the business outcome and the people who will maintain the site. Mark an item only when it has been decided or completed; add an owner and due date for anything still open.

1. Set the outcome

  • Name the main visitor and the task they need to complete.
  • Choose one primary action: call, book, request a quote, visit, or buy.
  • Define one observable signal that will tell you the site is helping.
  • Record launch constraints, budget range, and decision maker.

2. Plan pages and content

  • List the smallest set of pages needed to answer customer questions.
  • Assign an owner and source of truth for every business fact.
  • Gather current service details, contact information, hours, and service area.
  • Confirm image, logo, testimonial, and font permissions.
  • Identify forms, booking, payment, maps, and other integrations.
  • Remove placeholder copy and unsupported claims.

3. Confirm usability and access

  • Check the site at phone, tablet, and desktop widths.
  • Navigate with a keyboard and confirm focus is visible.
  • Give images meaningful alternative text or mark decorative images appropriately.
  • Check headings, link labels, form instructions, and error messages.
  • Confirm contrast and that color is not the only way information is conveyed.
  • Test forms with incomplete and invalid entries.

4. Establish ownership

  • Put the domain, hosting, and platform accounts under business control.
  • Name who manages renewals, edits, backups, and account recovery.
  • Record how content and assets can be exported.
  • Decide who responds to form submissions and where they are stored.
  • Document support arrangements and what is outside the project scope.

5. Launch and maintain

  • Test every call, email, booking, payment, and form path.
  • Review page titles, descriptions, redirects, and location details.
  • Check privacy notices against the features and data actually collected.
  • Confirm backups, analytics choices, and monitoring responsibilities.
  • Assign a review date for prices, hours, service details, and links.
  • Keep a short change log and a named person for future updates.

Every business and project is different. Treat this as general planning guidance, then confirm platform-specific, legal, tax, and security requirements with the appropriate provider or qualified professional.
